Who we are
Africa Chess Media covers African chess and gives it a voice. We report on players, tournaments and people across the continent and share their stories with Africa and the rest of the world. Africa Chess Media was co-founded by Tendai Mubayiwa and Ogunsiku Babatunde “Othims”. Our writers and contributors come from different parts of Africa and beyond.
What we cover
- News and reports from continental, zonal and national championships, such as the African Individual Chess Championships and the Africa Zonal Championships
- Africa’s teams and players at the Chess Olympiad and other world events that have African participants
- Country reports from across the continent
- Chess governance and elections, including the Africa Chess Confederation and FIDE
- Interviews and player profiles
- Our Players page, with ratings for African players
Since 2018 we have published more than 450 articles, and our archive holds interviews from African chess going back to 2011.
Our mission
Our goal is simple: to get more people playing chess, talking about chess and promoting chess. We have seen what this simple yet complex game can do to help transform our continent. We want every African chess story to be told and heard, from schools and local clubs all the way to the world stage.
