All roads lead to Kimberley! Moja Chess Extravaganza 2022

All roads are headed for Kimberley in the Northern Cape province of South Africa for the Moja Chess Extravaganza 2022 where a ginormous chess event has been organized.

The Moja Chess Club, under the auspices of Frances Baard Chess and Northern Cape Chess, has invited all chess players to participate in the Over-The-Board Moja Chess Extravaganza 2022 to be held at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre which is situated in Kimberley, Northern Cape on 18 – 22 March 2022. A GM/IM norm event is also scheduled to run concurrently between 18 – 27 March 2022.

Tournament Schedule

  1. GM/IM Norm (90 minutes + 30minutes after 40 moves with 30 seconds increments from first move): 18 – 27 March 2022
  2. Prestige, Ladies & B Section (90 + 30 sec Increment from move 1) :  18 – 22 March 2022
  3. C & D Section (60 + 30 sec Increment from move 1) : 18 – 20 March 2021

There are some exciting players who have registered for this event. With prizes being so uncharacteristically lucrative it is no surprise that the event caught the attention of chess players far and wide.

Some players just want to test themselves against some of the best chess talents both local and from around the world, so this is billed to be a tight contest all round.

Simultaneous Exhibition

There will be a simultaneous exhibition with GM Nigel Short at the Garden Court in Kimberley starting at 15:00 on the 18 March 2022. Cost of participation will be R100. The first twenty (20) under 1850 rated players to register on this link will be allowed to participate.

Ladies Section – PRIZE FUND: R18,250-00
B Section – U1600 – PRIZE FUND: R8,550-00
C – Section – U1100 – PRIZE FUND: R3,950-00
D – Section – U900 (Born 2011 or later )- PRIZE FUND: R1,750-00
