The count down to the South African Junior Chess Championships (SAJCCs) is in full swing. The SAJCC, will run from 3 to 12 January 2020 and will be hosted at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre, Boksburg, Gauteng as has been the case in previous years.

The SAJCC is the largest chess tournament in South Africa and one of the biggest chess events in Africa. It attracts thousands of chess players from across the country. All African Chess Federations were also cordially invited to participate in the 2019 South African Junior Chess Championships.

Besides the main South African Junior Team Championships, there will be other events as well, which means a whole lot of variety in terms of the tournaments. Players from across the country will converge to the SAJCC accompanied by their parents and coaches.

The events scheduled to take place include 2019 South African Junior Team Chess Championships, 2019 Wild Card Chess Championship, 2019 South Africa Junior Blitz Chess Championships. There will also be the 2019 South Africa Doubles Chess Championships, 2019 Inter Regional Team Chess Championship and 2019 South Africa Junior Chess Championships for the Disabled.

The last edition of the SAJCC saw Super Grandmaster Wesley So coming from the United States of America to officially open the tournament and take part in various promotional chess events including a record breaking simultaneous exhibition. The previous SAJCC had seen Super GM Hikaru Nakamura also officially opening the SAJCC and taking part in various events to promote chess.

The SAJCC Team event is also compulsory if a player wants to qualify for the South African Junior Closed Chess Championships later on in 2020.

All key tournament related correspondence will be made available on the tournament website: www.sajcc.co.za. Tournament pairings, results and games will also be published here once the tournament commences.
