The defending champions of the CPAN League Season Two (2) have taken the lead in the ongoing Season Three (3) with four (4) game points, by totally stuffing the Hope for Girls Team with a clear six to nothing (6-0), and joining Team Saxx (at the summit of the league) who defeated Chess Sensation with a narrow one point (3.5-2.5), thanks to a walk over on board 1 in favour of the former. The President of CPAN, Ms Ayokanmi Ajayi played against her Vice President, Udeme Dominic. Vice President didn’t bow to her superiority, as he defeated her on the board to show who is indeed superior (on the board though).

Chesszits after losing their first round to a walkover on all their boards, as a result of their lateness to the tournament, totally outplayed the formidable Evergreen team. A beautiful game was played by veteran FM Agusto Obafunmilayo against Koko Obubele on board 1 which the former lost. Under 16 Tochukwu Ezinna in a totally lost position, picked up the win against Odafe Efemuai, due to the violation of the rule: “No phones in the playing hall”, which after his opponent’s phone rang, was punished by an outright forfeit according to the rules of the tournament.
Ugushidah Ikorogbudu defeated Dr. Martin Odum and FM Kigigha Bomo had to prove why he is the highest rated player in the country by defeating FM Erhabo David. The only loss was by Lovejoy Ezinna, the “Zits” team captain played against Evergreen’s female player Assa Oluwaseun and Assa showed why she is classified as one of the best female players in the country by defeating Lovejoy, while Perpetual Obiyoyo defeated Adebayo Tanitoluwa for Chesszits to win with a whooping four (4) points difference (5-1) in this encounter.
The Outliers were totally deciphered by the Deciphers team. Onokpite Kennedy defeated Adelaja Adewale in a keenly contested brawl, FM Osunfuyi Abimbola defeated Eloka Eguagwu, while Ambesh tore apart Babayanju Rotimi’s Sicilian defense. Tochukwu Akagha defeated youngster Oyelabi Jonathan and Toritse Ofowino defeated Okeke Isaac to wrap it up for the Deciphers. The only win for the Outliers was from Olabisi Oluwaseun, with the match ending in another four (4) point difference (5-1).
It is very rare for University Chess Players to compete with Polytechnic or School of Technology students in a school team tournament. But when University of Lagos team were paired against Yaba College of Technology in this round, the latter dominated the encounter, winning four (4) games out of six (6) boards.

Round three (3) of the tournament would be coming up in June. The Junior Terminators would need to put in a lot of training time to avail them the confidence to terminate Chess Sensations, while Team Saxx already told Team Yaba College of Technology that they are coming all out for them. Facility Control Team versus University of Lagos Team looks a little one sided, but the Captain of Unilag team has vowed to cause a lot of upsets in the League, and they started brightly, we await to see how they hold their own against the defending champions of the league. Hope for Girls would be tangoing with the Outliers, while the match to watch would be between the Evergreen against the Deciphers Team, who both have something to prove after the bashing received and doled out respectively, in the second (2nd) round of the League.
