Africans Fly Out To Meet The World in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia!

With the Africa Individual Chess Championship clearing the path for the final qualifiers of Africans, who would be representing the continent at The 2019 Chess World Cup in Russia, the players are ready to take the battle to the world, as they fly out of the continent and represent, not just their various countries, but the continent at large, in a tournament that kicks off on the 9th of September.

These are the representatives and how they qualified:

From the Africa Individual Chess Championship – GM Bassem Amin and GM Essam El Gindy

From the Zone 4.1 Individual Chess Championship – GM Bellahcene Bilel

From the Zone 4.2 Individual Chess Championship – GM Adly Ahmed

From the Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championship – IM Rakotomaharo Fy

And the Zone 4.4 Individual Chess Championship produced – IM Anwuli Daniel

FIDE released the set of players these African gladiators would be facing off against, as Iran’s GM Tabatabaei M.amin would be taking on Africa’s top dog in GM Amin Bassem, IM Fy Rakotomaharo would be taking his chances against GM Shakhryiya Mamedyarov, IM Anwuli Daniel challenges French super grandmaster GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, GM Bellahcene Bilel takes on USA’s 2019 Champion GM Hikaru Nakamura, super performing veteran, GM El Gindy Essam takes the battle to Armenia’s love, GM Levon Aronian and GM Adly Ahmed tackles GM Ivan Cheparinov, for a spot in the second round of the event.

As the various countries send out their delegates to represent the continent, the Governor of Delta State in Nigeria has bestowed his goodwill message to the young Nigerian in a twitter message, quoting the World Cup as well as FIDE, and sending the Nigerian forth to bring home glory to the good land of Delta State.

With the Chess World Cup holding at the Ugra Chess Academy in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, there is a lot of opportunities for the International Masters to achieve the title of Grandmasters and there is also the opportunity to gain access into the Candidates tournament, which would help decide who faces the World Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen in a thirteen (13) game Match, later in 2020.

As the games kick off on the 9th of September, a few days from now, our African brothers would be flying out to Russia in other to give their best performances thus far, in representing themselves, their countries and the continent at large.
