What is a “Ticket”?
At the presidential election stage of Fide, a “ticket” is the team a presidential candidate has chosen to work with, to lead together and reason together, in other to run a successful tenure.
With a team that has a mixture of both youth and experience, Dr Essoh Essis announces his ticket he would be pleased to work with towards a successful tenure at the helm of the continent of Africa. And the list is as follows:
- Dr. Ahmed Abdi Hassan, Deputy President: A veteran from the abode of Somalia, who has led the Somalian Chess Federation for a number of years and has partnered with the Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa for the development of chess in Somalia. With the Federation’s partnership with the Kasparov Chess Foundation, Africa, they have taken chess to various schools and helped improve the quality of chess in the country.
- FA Rachael Edward-Dappa, Vice President: FA Dappa has been in the sport from her early years and has served in various capacity in Nigeria, but most recently, as the Secretary of the Bayelsa State Sports Council in Nigeria. A Fide Arbiter, who has served the Nigerian Chess Federation under various leadership and has now been given the opportunity to serve on a continental scale.
- FI Yves Andre Rakotomaharo, Vice President: He is a top ten (10) player in Madagascar, the president of the Madagascan Chess Federation and a partner to the vision of taking chess to the communities. A Fide Instructor, who has used his skills to help others within his country and develop the upcoming generations.
- CM Nurdin Hassuji, General Secretary: Nurdin is a brilliant Tanzanian mind, filled with ideas of how chess should be run on the continent. A young and active individual, who is currently the General Secretary of the Tanzanian Chess Federation and one who is billed to help promote chess and provide views and insights to the benefit of the continent.
- FA Clive Mphambela, Treasurer: Fide Arbiter Clive is a Zimbabwean who firmly believes in doing the right thing, as evidenced by the respect of various Southern African Federations who always want to have him as an arbiter in their tournaments. With him as the treasurer of the board, Dr. Essoh believes Africa’s finances will be in safe keep for the next four years.
- Dr. Essoh Essis, President: Leading the ranks is Dr. Essoh Essis of Ivory Coast. The brilliant mind who continues to stand for Africa on every front, and stands on the premise that Africa Chess can and should be better than what we currently have. He highlighted his five (5) primary goals as follows:
1. Political and financial independence from any FIDE leader or camp
2. Management Capacity-building programs for African Chess fédérations and clubs
3. Fundraising programs through negotiations with African governments, private sector and individuals/institutions willing and able to invest in Chess development programs in each country
4. A consensually agreed, detailed schedule of Chess events to be organized by all federations and all regions of Africa
5. Focused training programs for African Chess trainers, organizers, arbiters, etc. Through cooperative agreements to be concluded with advanced chess countries and federations
With signed letters of nomination for the ACC Presidential Ticket of Dr. Essoh Jean Mathieu Claude Essis, as received from the Presidents of the Chess Federations of Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana, Madagascar, Somalia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Rwanda, the ticket has now been finalized with the slogan: Together, We Can!
Africa Chess Media hopes to announce the tickets of the remaining two (2) candidates running for this same election in Mr Lewis Ncube and Mr Tshepo Sitale. Watch this space.

Are you kidding? You just write an article for one of the three candidates? This is ridiculous! What about the other two?
I did consult with the other 2 candidates and they are yet to provide the information needed. I will definitely publish as soon as I get the information from them.
